Tonico Cafe, Kakkanad: A Classy, Casual Cafe

It was one of those rainy evenings in Kochi when the water droplets linger on the leaves and make them appear greener than ever. The roads are wet and the smell of earth penetrates through the nose. I am in Tonico cafe, a popular cafe spot in Kakkanad. Located opposite to Cochin Special Economic Zone behind Reliance petrol bunk, you’re unlikely to spot Tonico Cafe while speeding down the Thripunithra road.

It is marked by some amazing cooking, although no wheels are reinvented. They feed you as classy as possible, with a farmhouse breakfast, hot/cold beverages, or some crunchy items and desserts, tasteful as possible. The ambiance gives the well-to-do of the of the suburbs, but the loud music steals the quietness.  The textured walls in earthy shades decorated with the wooden frames of catchy quotes are an equally compelling wide-eyed pleasure. There are juicy burgers, sandwiches, omelets, pasta and Belgium coffee dessert to choose from.

The spacious parking space is a blessing in Tonico cafe. The staff does their job beautifully, serving with a smiling face and friendly gestures. There is a small copper bell on the table, which you can ring when you need the service. If you’re looking for a relaxed space to sit and chat for a long time, Tonico is one of the best available options in the city.
